The Story

Widows Creek Falls is a historical landmark in Stone Mountain State Park, Wilkes County, North Carolina. This beautiful fall is only a few hundred feet from the parking area.

A little research and I found the location, which was a reasonable drive. My wife and I decided to explore the falls and capture some images. We were pleased that the falls were a short walk, and we quickly were rewarded with an awesome scene.

Over the years the falls had carved flowing streams (see video) in the solid rock supporting the falls which cascaded to several small collection pools, before finally resting in a large pool about 100 feet from the main falls.

I settled into a position across one of the flowing streams to capture several compositions, I asked my wife to bring me a different lens and she slipped crossing the steam! I thought she was gone! I'll I could envision was her sliding all the way down to the main pool in a splash. Luckily another photographer saw her slip and rushed to help...of course the photographer (luv her!) grabbed the lens first, then assisted my wife, avoiding the fall.

Whooo! I was not the hero that day and was grateful the young photographer was nearby. We laugh now every time we see the images from Widows Falls.

Super happy with the images and the story behind this image!
